Remote learning has initiated difficult and important conversations about access, opportunity and existing inequities within the Massachusetts education system. And you probably have questions about how the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is rising to the challenge at this crucial moment.

Join us for an intimate conversation with our guest expert Jackie Gantzer to discuss how Massachusetts is addressing the needs of PreK-12 learners in our state.

A few sample questions to start your thinking:

• How does the state of MA and DESE address and lessen existing racial and economic inequities?
• What about remote learning can and/or should be leveraged when students are back in school?
• How have PreK-12 teachers pivoted to support their learners online? What’s working? What’s not?

Join the Civic Series and YEP-Boston for our virtual Q&A with guest expert Jackie Gantzer. Together, we’ll unpack what’s really happening with remote learning in Massachusetts. We’ll start with a 20 minute presentation and then spend the remaining time engaging directly with the questions you bring.

Our guest expert:

Jackie Gantzer joined the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2019 and took on the role of Director of Remote Learning this past April. In this capacity, she has played a leading role coordinating and implementing the state’s pandemic response for K-12 schools. Jackie began her career as a middle school ELA teacher, and has since spent time as a school administrator, serving in the Indianapolis Mayor’s Office of Education Innovation, working for an education nonprofit, and as an education consultant supporting organizations with talent, planning, and development strategy.

This event is a collaboration between YEP-Boston and Civic Series Boston.

YEP-Boston is the Greater Boston area chapter of Young Education Professionals.
